The Astonishing Thing

paris-marathon-alkaline-balance-diet-laura-wilsonBetween 2002 and 2011, I went on to become much fitter, leaner, healthier and happier all round.

I ran a total of over 30 running races – a few 5k and 10k races, lots of cross country races and lots of half marathons – Plymouth, Seaton, Cardiff, Torbay, Saltash, Hong Kong!

In both 2004 and 2005, I ran Paris Marathon. Between these two years, this was the time where I really honed in on my diet. I had virtually gone vegan and was eating very clean and drinking pretty much only water and herbal teas.

Without knowing too much about it, I intuitively come round to eating a low fat, high carbohydrate, raw vegan alkaline diet – in other words lots of raw fruit and veg with some porridge and grains thrown in here and there.

As a direct result of optimising my diet between 2004 and 2005, I was able to knock a whole hour off of my marathon running time – from 4 hours 48 minutes to 3:48. The members of my running group who I ran the race with said that this kind of improvement was virtually unheard of.

This confirmed to me that I was on the right track, as well as being in better shape now at 25 than I had been all though my teens and early 20s.

Working as A Medical Research Manager

In late 2005, I landed a job in a major health organisation managing the medical research locally. y now, I was so into health and fitness and had spent over six years researching in this area that I felt I could make a significant contribution to other people’s health and wellbeing.

“What better place to work than in the leading health organisation?” I thought.

Well, to cut a long story short, I was totally wrong.

I was offered an extension of my contract after two years and I declined it on the spot. I could not be involved any more with this disease organisation.

I now felt it was my mission in life to promote health and I was not going to be able to do it there. So I made a vow to set up my own website and hold my own health events – free from the shackles of drug companies and the like.

So in 2008 I set up Alkaline Diet Health Tips 🙂

The Tony Robbins Event

Earlier that year, I had been to an Anthony Robbins seminar, Unleash The Power Within. Tony’s the super-motivational huge guy from the US who promotes that we can all do anything and must step up to live to our full potential. If you haven’t heard of him, Google him, he’s quite a man!

It was a wonderful event. After 3 days of fire-walking, laughing, crying, doing deep healing work, getting rid of emotional ‘stuff’ and generally having a spellbinding experience unlike anything else (with 12,000 other people lol), on the forth day he focused on how we must really clean up our diet and in order to live in best health we should follow the ‘alkaline diet’.

“What is the alkaline diet?” I wondered.

After learning all about it and listening to all the science and research behind it, I realised that this was the diet I had been living on for the past 6 years!

I knew I felt good on it but I didn’t know that this was the optimum diet for all humans and that you could heal disease and illness and reverse aging and increase longevity and all these other crazy benefits.

Everyone I spoke to at the event had totally bought into the concept of the alkaline diet and wanted to make some changes for the better with their eating regime but didn’t really now where to start.

I gave some people tips on how I eat and how to keep it up over the long term and they found it useful.

When I left that event, I began long and detailed research into the alkaline diet – this is where my degree in Law has been useful – in being able to do sound research and ‘triangulating’ results and findings and being discerning in where I get my information from.

Obviously, we all need to be careful when finding out things from the internet and the traditional media for its accuracy and integrity.

This is when I knew my health website should be focused around the alkaline diet – the diet I had had great success on for over 6 years and that many doctors and researchers had confirmed as being great for supreme health and healing.
