Laura, I had a big open sore in the middle of my tongue for about 4 years now (suffering from Collagenous Colitis for 4 years) and could hardly taste any food I ate. Since I have been alkalizing, it is disappearing and is only a small little mark now! How do I thank you for your wonderful work? THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

    Hi Laura

Thank you for this – I have just started to apply the alkaline diet and am blending it into my way of life along the plan you suggest – one of the biggest challenges is drinking enough water – I simply don’t so that will be my goal for this week.

I love green juice and have one every morning for breakfast. I love the twist on this one with added seeds so will give it go tomorrow. Looking forward to it.

You are so encouraging and your tips and videos are a very helpful way of keeping on track – thank you .

700 calories for one breakfast smoothie!!! That’s double the cals of my breakfast porridge with blueberries + a small banana. Is porridge made with water OK?

    Hi Laura,

My husband and I have been making this smoothie for 1 week now and I thought (due to the colour of it) it would not taste nice, and I was totally amazed, I love it! – my husband will eat and drink anything, so when he said it was nice I thought – yeh, o.k. I love it so much that I have been drinking this for 1 week and the energy I have recieved is amazing – I have also taken on your tips and advice about eating alkaline food and have been doing well so far. Now that I have added energy, I am excited to try some of your recepies. – I havent had milk for 1 week also and I thought I would not be able to do that! – I am also loving green tea and Jasmine – who thought 🙂
Thanks for your great web site and all your information and encouragement. Mell

    Laura,
Came to your seminar at Dartington and , apart from speakers who had financial themes , felt that the talks by Tao Earl and the other long haired speaker were so powerful and empowered me to commit myself to a complete alkaline diet lifestyle which I have been playing at for the last 19 years since my traumatic brain injury near Totnes in 1993.
When I am able to follow this diet , I feel so much better and sharper that I would recommend this to any of the millions of brain injured people that are stuck with a standard western diet.
You can quote me on this as I feel they should all be aware of it and I know this would be a USPS for you.
    Thanks again,

What are the pros and cons of Smoothies versus Juicing? I have a very good juicer but not a blender. Obviously can’t juice avocados, but am happy to eat those with a spoon..it’s as close to dessert as I get these days.
Second question: how do soups fit into the alkaline diet lifestyle: it is winter here in Tasmania.

I love the information your site offers. I have just begun alkalizing and it is already started to pay off. Everyone is noticing how healthy I look. I was experiencing dry skin patches and rashes all over my skin. Since I started using the recipes you give on the site I have experienced smoother skin. All the spots have healed and the rashes are barely noticeable. I feel much healthier and have tons of energy now. As a special needs teacher and a single mother of one 7 year old girl, I need all the energy I can get.

Good question! Monitor your calorie intake and expenditure and make sure the former exceeds the latter. It’s easy on a raw and veg/fruit based diet to not eat enough

I have been diagnosed with Meneire’s disease, which is a disease of the inner ear that causes hearing loss, dizziness, vertigo episodes which come along with severe nausea, vomiting, etc. After doctor visits and an MRI, a friend who had the same thing referred me to a chiropractor to adjust my ears. The guy I went to did adjust my ears and my hearing was restored. He also told me to lay off dairy, sugar and grains and talked about acid in the body and such. At first, I didn’t know what he was talking about, but I started researching and found the websites that describe the alkaline diet. I have been on the diet (not absolutely strict, since I have 5 children and a husband at home that are still eating the foods I love) for about 3 weeks and my energy levels have increased noticeably and I don’t feel dizzy as I did before. I do find that some days I am able to stay strict on the diet and some days I crave sugar and unhealthy things. I am still learning and know that I do not want to feel like I did just a few weeks ago! Our whole family is making changes, although slower than me. Thank you for your research and tips!

I have a question about the product called Quorn. It is a protein sub that is made of: mycoprotein, rehydrated egg white, malt extract. I am looking for better sources of protein so pls tell me what you think of this product. I contains no soy.

    • laura_wilson1@me.com December 8, 2011 at 10:34 am - Reply

Quorn is ok but classed as acidic. Better than meat in my view but I’d go for oily fish such as mackerel and salmon over Quorn.

Everyone talks about losing weight. What if you are 22 years old, been a diabetic for a year on a raw food diet for the year, only weigh 106 and are 5 foot 8 inches. How do I gain weight. Just started the alkaline diet because blood sugar started rising. It’s back into the 90’s but need to gain some weight.

      Hi Linda,
Yes you’re right – most of us are looking to shed weight and little thought is ever given to people who want to gain weight – especially women! I’d say, start drinking my activator smoothie – it is high in calories (around 700) and full of good nutrients that will help you gain weight, if under, and also lose weight if over. I.e. it helps to balance out your weight. Hope that helps 🙂

I know this is a smoothie I would very much like. I only have an older blender and would really like one like you used on the video. I am thinking that I could load the blender in reverse order to what you did in the video. The fruits being used to sweeten the blender. — I have used a very good purchased green drink which while not as tasty as yours is very healthy. I believe that you referred to using alkaline water.

Due to health problems (nothing major) just aches and pains as we all become older and i felt tired all the time, I knew i had to do something ,so i looked at changing my diet. I started with breakfast : sprouted wheat bread with superfood powder and slice tomato and within a few days the pain in my joints and muscles had gone,I have been on this now three weeks. Now I am looking at changing my lunch and then my evening meal. Doing it slowly suits me. Temptation and falling back into old patterns is not too much of a challange doing it that way. Thanks to your free downloads i have some great ideas to follow. I am aware about the law of attraction and i found your lovely website to kick start my change. thanks you so much its exactly what i asked for.

The smoothie tasted MUCH better than I expected it to AND it kept me from being hungry for a very long time. However, I really don’t like pineapple and am wondering what I could substitute that would provide the same nutrition without the pungent tartness of the pineapple. Dear Laura,
Thank you so much for this valuable information. I have been learning more and more about the importance of an alkaline diet. The green smoothie recipe interests me but I am curious about mixing fruits with vegetables. I’ve read that fruits should always be eaten alone and at least 1-1/2 hrs. before or after a meal. Also, acid fruits should not be combined with alkaline fruits. Please tell me your thoughts.

    Thank you,

    Hi Laura,
Yes your recipe book is pretty very useful. I have tried some of recipes and I have to say they are very delicious. I have make some of modifications to recipes, like add avocado and almonds to salads and it is just amazing….Now total conversion on alkaline food is going in step by step procedures. I mean I was eating and drinking a lot of junk crap before, but last few months, I have changed almost everything, including incorporating ionized water in all day regime. So, I have to say I am doing OK, but of course aiming higher (like latin saying ad astra).

I was actually wondering when I watched your video 3 with smoothie, you have included regular water in recipe, also majority of recipes also including regular tap water for food preparation.
What is your thoughts about alkaline water, that incorporates alkaline diet.
Also so far I am on alkaline water so far a few months and actually accepted an dealer for Tyent water ionizers.

Have made your activator smoothie several times now and it is fantastic.

Difficult to get organic spinach at the moment so I used cabbage once and watercress twice and both worked really well.

Thank you for a great service as it helps to be reminded frequently how important it is to keep my body alkaline because of a cancer diagnosis 7 years ago. Now feeling much healthier with more energy than I have ever felt in my life prior to my diagnosis. All my family are also now buying into ways to achieve optimum health.

Well done on overcoming cancer. Your story is very similar to many other people who write to me, saying that following an alkaline diet has helped to reverse their disease and they feel better than ever. Definitely a great testament to the healing pwer of the alkaline diet, I am so glad it’s worked well for you and your family.

I’ve heard that kale inhibits thyroid function and makes it act like an underactive thyroid, any thoughts on that? Also I see agave appearing in lots of “healthy” recipes but yesterday I heard that it’s not really any better than sugar. I’m confused now!!

    • Laura January 18, 2011 at 4:36 pm - Reply

      Hi Erika,
I am not sure about kale but yes, agave is essentially a sugar, so just like honey, fructose, molasses and other ‘natural’ sweeteners, it is still acidic (although not refined and processed). They are fine to have in moderation and are preferable to refined white sugar but just don’t be misled into thinking that these natural sweeteners are ‘good’ for your body and alkaline.
      Hope this helps 🙂

    Hi Laura,
I have recently stated on an alkaline diet which was recommended to me. On the whole I am finding it great and I feel better with more energy. You website is great and the videos are excellent. My question to you is about spelt bread. I have been researching recipes to make this and have found most have milk or yeast in them. What happens to these ingredients when they are used in cooking. I notice that spelt flour is slightly acidic but where does the baked spelt bread sit.
The Smoothie is just a bit much for me so I am going to try it again with halving the recipe.
    Thanks.

      Hi Maree,
Thanks for your kind comments and feedback and glad you’ve got more energy from following the alkaline diet, lovely to hear 🙂
Anything with milk and yeast is acidic – some spelt breads do not contain these, which is why they may be listed as being alkaline. Hope this clarifies it for you.
Yes the smoothie is filling – can easily have for breakfast and as a mid morning snack and keep you full til lunch.
      Great health to you!

      Hi Maryla,
Thanks for your comments and well done on a pretty good diet following your cancer. Yes, it can be hard to stay off of dairy and choc. Have you tried raw cacao? It’s a very nice non-dairy, ‘non-naughty’ version of choc, in fact it’s a superfood and has all the anti-oxidants and raises seratonin levels like normal chocolate does but without the stripped nutrients and sugar and dairy. It is quite sumptuous and great witha trail mix of nuts, seeds and berries.

There is full details of my Alkaline Diet Vitality Recipe Book in the next video. Prices will be indicated on there with a link to buy.
Wishing you great health this year and beyond,
      Laura

This is even better than the one I’ve been enjoying since you’ve added the apples. 🙂 My naturopath really wants me to eat blueberries, and I’m wondering if that’s something I should truly be doing w/ their sugar content. (I’m trying to nip some DCIS in its early stages so that’s why he encourages the blueberries.) How about adding a little coconut powder to this as well? And perhaps some kiwi? It can be a bit confusing w/ list overlaps as to what is acceptable and not, yet I do recognize your ingredients as being the most alkaline, and I eat these same ingredients each day. Since I do need more protein, in addition to all of the seeds and powders and avocado, I’m including some beans and lots of fish (salmon and trout prepared w/ olive oil and lemon, canned sardines and herring in water or olive oil – I can’t seem to find these two fresh anywhere.) Winter mornings are a bit more challenging, yet yesterday I made a broccoli “soup” that was perfect. (Just lightly steamed and then blended w/ other raw alkaline veggies, + garlic, fresh ginger and turmeric.) You and your site are wonderful! Thanks so much for sharing and lifting our spirits while promoting our energy and great health!

      Hi Rachel,
      Great feedback, thank you.
You can add spirulina to the smoothie for added protein and yes, coconut powder is a fine addition – coconut is pretty alkaline and coconut oil is great stuff to use in cooking.
Kiwi is not strictly alklaline but would be fine to use instead of the apples to sweeten the smoothie.
      Your brocolli soup sounds lovely!
Thanks again for your kind comments, appreciated.

Thanks for the email, this is what I am into at the moment. It is important – instead of buying that greasy burger spent a little on your health.

Living in the midwest all the foods you reccommend are available but is very hard to find recipes to know how and what to do with them. I’m limited right now as far as just using smoothie recipes but sometimes you just want something comforting(when it’s below zero and snowing, as it is now) or something to really sink your teeth into! Love the foods list and just really hope you can put out some recipes as well!

Hi Teresa thanks for your comment. Watch for the next video. I’ll be discussing my new Alkaline Diet Vitality Recipe Book and programme, whcih I think you’ll love. I have lots of new recipes, some of which are warm and feel like ‘comfort food’ but are actually surprinsingly alkaline and very healthy!…Who says we can’t have the best of both worlds hey? 😉
      Best wishes,
      Laura

Hi Laura, I know I’m bound to be a fan being your Dad :O) but I’m probably one of your earliest converts (since you bought me the smoothie maker) and drink smoothies every day. I use different ones from your book and love them all. I occasionally use small amounts of one or two different ingredients if I havn’t got the specified ones or I fancy something different….blackberries. strawbwerries etc in season, however I always use a good handful of spinach and/or kale as a basis. I learnt from you that these and other green leaf vegetables are such an important part of a healthy diet. The amazing thing is there is very little taste with them raw and you don’t even know that they are there in your delicious smoothie. I’m 66 next month (don’t forget my card Laura lol) and still play badminton once or twice a week, walk on Dartmoor every sunday…8 to 10 miles and I’ve just bought a treadmill and am using it for an hour every day (I can recommend retirement). I can honestly say that since drinking smoothies and changing to a more alkaline diet I have more energy when doing all exercises. Thank you Laura, love you lots, Dad xxx

      Hi Keith (DAD!! 🙂 x),
Thank you very much for your comment. Well, I have to say, you’re such a great success story. To go from a smoker, meat eater etc of many years to a smoothie drinking, alkaline convert is amazing. I am so pleased and you look fantastic for your age! I sometimes forget that you are getting on for 70 (ok well 4 years to go yet, soz lol) and I’m sure your friends at badminton think the same when you beat them!

You’re right, the addition of things like cucumber, kale and spinach in smoothies, are actually very paletable and you cannot taste them in sweet pineapple smoothies etc. but they do add a nice bit of body.

Well done Dad, love you lots and thanks for your support and open-mindedness,
      Laura xxx

Ive now been doing the alkaline diet now since just before New Years Eve. Although my tummy feels less bloated Im not losing any weight.
I am having barley grass twice a day, have swapped to gluten free seeded bread (haven’t found yeast free yet), cut back on the meat, dairy and fruit.
I thought I was doing pretty well, eating more veg, especially green, salads with avocados, nibbling on seeds and almonds….but…how long will it be before I notice any difference? I am drinking between 2-3 litres of water a day
    Help!! Im getting frustrated now.

      Hi Karen,
Thank you for your comments and feedback on the alterations you’ve made to your diet. Firstly, well done for making some very positive changes!
Hopefully the following info may help you to feel more positive about your experience so far…

From my own and other people’s experience and backed up heavily by most of the literature out there on detox and making positive dietary changes, one thing is clear:
It is perfectly natural to feel a bit WORSE before you feel better. When we go into detox (as you probably are by following the natural and alkaline diet that you describe), our bodies say ‘wow, a chance to throw all the rubbish in our system out and eliminate it!’ We eliminate waste by expiration (breathing), filtration/urination, elimination (bowels) and perspiration (skin).

Therefore, for a little while, we may experience headaches, spots, no weight loss, aches etc whilst we are ‘cleaning house’. BUT and it is a big BUT – this is only for a relatively short period and then we should be on an upward curve of energy, health and vitality.

So stay patient and stick with it. Let me know how you’re feeling again in week.

Another thing, it does seem strange that you have lost NO weight at all thus far. it might be a good idea to keep a food diary for a week or so to check the amount of calories you are consuming. If it’s more than 2,000 per day then it is unlikely that you’ll lose weight (unless you’re doing a lot of physical activity).

      Thanks, hope this helps,
      Laura
